The S2 McCarty 594 Thinline is arguably our current favorite PRS S2 model here at the shop, and this one in a classic Tobacco Sunburst finish is no exception. Similar to the Vela, it's unique in that there's no real Core equivalent - it may be based on the McCarty 594 platform, but the changes PRS has made to the design make it a unique beast all its own. 

For starters, the toggle switch was moved from the upper horn to next to the volume and tone knobs, a change that makes pickup switching a lot more intuitive if you are more familiar with a "Custom"-style PRS or an S/T-style guitar. However, the biggest change you'll notice both upon immediately seeing and playing this model is the thin body - instead of a thick mahogany body and maple top, PRS streamlined the design to a much thinner piece of mahogany to improve ergonomics and make the guitar extremely light - most of these clock in around the 6-7lb mark, which is phenomenally light for a McCarty, while still being a very balanced instrument. These two changes make this guitar a pretty close equivalent and competitor to a certain iconic double-cutaway, "horned" guitar played by the likes of AC/DC and Black Sabbath. Lastly, PRS chose the Pattern Thin neck profile for this model, which you may be familiar with from the "Custom"-line guitars, such as the Custom 24.

The USA-made 58/15 LT pickups (new to the S2 line!) are sort of like PRS's take on a PAF pickup, but with a bit more oomph and top-end clarity to it. We love the extra brightness and presence that these have and it really goes well with the tonewoods for this guitar. There's a perfect amount of brightness to cut through any mix, mid-range presence to retain articulation and definition, and tight bass response to give your guitar's voice fullness and some warmth.
