In the 1950s, Gibson Guitars produced a trio of exotic and futuristic guitars: the Explorer, the Futura (later to be known as the Flying V), and the Moderne. Both the Explore and Flying V were widely accepted, but the Moderne didn't share the same fate as its siblings. Due to their lack of acceptance, the Moderne guitars were supposedly destroyed by Gibson. Rumors have circulated over the last six decades that a few guitars survived, but no one has been able to authenticate these claims. Over the years the Gibson Moderne gained a mysterious and mythological status in the guitar community. Two of Gibson's best-loved '57 humbuckers give the Gibson Moderne the power, punch, and clarity of Gibson's legendary PAF pickups. These pickups give you a full range of tones from warm and full to bright and biting. Other traditional appointments include vintage-style Gibson speed knobs, classic Kluson-style tuners with pearloid buttons, which offer period-correct looks with a higher tuning ratio, and a chrome Nashville Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar.
