1969 Martin "S" OM-28 Natural
Well here's something you don't see every day - a 1969 Martin"S" OM-28; one of only six special (hence the "s") orderedOM-28's for the 1969 model year. This guitar is presented for sale for thefirst time since the original owner purchased it as a salesman at NYC'snow-defunct music retail establishment "Folklore Center and FrettedInstruments" which was a launching pad for the storied Matt Umanov guitarshop.
Featuring gorgeous Brazillian Rosewood back and sides, thisguitar shows remarkably well for its age, with only a few pictured marks in thebinding, a few scratches on the back, and a since repaired Laquer crack (not inthe wood) that has been touched up by Martin (more information to follow). Thisguitar at one point had a strap pin installed that has since been removed, anddoes not currently have an end pin installed.
Featured in Walter Carter's "Martin Book," this example enjoyeda neck reset, pickguard replacement, and general servicing at the Martin Guitarfactory in early 2019, at over a thousand dollars expense to the owner; thisgave this piece a phenomenal action and playability factor that it still enjoystoday. At the time of the servicing, since Martin does not perform appraisals, the only value Martin could place on it was a "replacement" value - adollar amount that it would cost someone to pay Martin to recreate thisinstrument with a new OM-28 with similar specs and Brazillian Rosewood. Martinquoted this at $11,299 at the time of servicing in 2019, well before covid andthe more than 20% increase in price in almost all goods, as well as inflation, etc - and this would be for a new one with no historic collector value. <UL>
